Why I Don’t Unpack

Coming back from a trip is always a hassle. There’s the obvious - going back to work! No more 5 days of enjoying the afternoon however you so please with a cocktail by the pool. Then there’s the less spoken about post-trip Return to Reality responsibilities that drown you the second you walk through the door. And somewhere in there is the need to unpack a weeks’ worth of carefree wadded up mess.

I could sit here and argue that I don’t unpack because I know the second I unpack that bag will be the moment the trip is officially over. Yes, I know, the trip is officially over once you return home; a suitcase doesn’t mean anything. Yet, taking out the clothes and seeing specific shirts or outfits can trigger PTSD of unforgettable memories that were just cemented in your life’s story. Yeah, that’s right, think about that!

or

I could explain how leaving a suitcase untouched for a few months will in turn bring a day that is reminiscent of Christmas morning. After hitting a point in the future where you’ve been starring at your closet for 10+ minutes unable to decide what to wear because it feels like you’ve worn all this stuff so much and you need a new wardrobe - BOOM - you find your suitcase packed full of old new outfits that bring you joy and life on that fateful morning.

or

I could make the argument that the clothes left in the suitcase are put away. That using your suitcase as a place to store clothes even when you’re home is a more efficient way to use up the space in your house and keep your environment feeling less cluttered.

All in all, there are several reasons why one might not unpack when they first get home from a vacation. Heck, or a reason someone doesn’t unpack at all!

These are just a few of the reasons I could muster up but the list is endless. I’ve just gotten to the point where I need to make a cup of coffee, but it’s my treat for after I publish this, so I need to wrap up!

So which of these three reasons is the reason I don’t unpack?

Take a guess!

Do you want to know?

Fine. If you insist.

🥁🥁🥁

Because I am lazy!
